MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: AWAY WIN

Despite scoring two own-goals for host Wurzburger Kickers, Karlsruher was plainly the better team in their 4-2 win last weekend. Marc Lorenz provided the assists to Karlsruher’s first two goals, scored by Benjamin Goller and Marvin Wanitzek. Just minutes after scoring one for his own side, Wanitzek found the back of his own team’s net in the 32nd minute. The midfielder restored the two-goal lead just before halftime to make it 3-1 at the break. Jerome Gondorf scored shortly after resumption of play to make it 4-1 before Christoph Kobald provided a second goal for the hosts. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Karlsruher, bounding them from 14th in the table to tenth.

Greuther Furth started the new year with a 2-1 win over St. Pauli, their second consecutive victory. Julian Green got things going from the penalty spot to put the hosts ahead in the 24th minute. Harvard Nielsen doubled the lead three minutes later. Though the visitors scored on their first shot on goal, the 2-1 came in the 82nd minute, too late to make a contest out of a match largely controlled by Stefan Leitl’s side. Greuther Furth has taken points in all eleven league games in which they’ve scored more than one goal and have lost all three times they’ve been held without a goal.

Both clubs here had extended winning streaks covering much of the month of November, but Greuther Furth has been the more-consistent of the two through the entirety of the season to date. Karlsruher has lost four of their six league matches at home to date, while Greuther Furth has yet to lose on the road. Take the visitors here.

HEAD TO HEAD

The visitor has won the last four league meetings between Karlsruher and Greuther Furth. The most-recent game between the clubs was Karlsruher’s 2-1 win at Greuther Furth last June. Greuther Furth had won 5-1 earlier in the season.
