MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: AWAY WIN

The holiday break was not enough for Sandhausen to reverse course, as the club was saddled with a 4-0 loss from their visit to Hannover last weekend, their fourth consecutive loss in league play. Add to that run a 4-0 loss in their German Cup loss and Michael Schiele’s squad has failed to score in their last five matches. Sandhausen’s twelve goals scored is the fewest in the league, while the 31 goals allowed in league play is third-worst, just one goal behind Braunschweig and Wurzburger Kickers, each of which have allowed 32.

After a slow start to their visit from Nurnberg, Heidenheim took control of the match to remain unbeaten at home, winning 2-0. Denis Thomalla delivered the 1-0 in added time just before the halftime break. Defender Patrick Mainka got his first goal of the season in the 76th minute, helping seal the deal. Heidenheim has posted clean sheets against four of their last five 2. Bundesliga opponents.

Though Heidenheim have won just one of their six away matches in league play, they are facing a Sandhausen squad that is spiralling downward and has been held off the scoreboard in their last four league games, including twice at home. Heidenheim is the better team here and should leave town with all three points.

HEAD TO HEAD

The visitor has won the last four meetings between Sandhausen and Heidenheim. The most-recent game between the clubs was Heidenheim’s 1-0 win at Sandhausen last February. Sandhausen had won 2-0 earlier in the season.
